4月28日晚上，哈博学校升学顾问、曾经担任麻省理工学院招生办副主任、耶鲁大学招生官、菲利普斯安多佛学院招生办副院长及少数族裔招生主任的默瑞莎女士举办留学讲座。
On the evening of April 28th, Habor Academy was proud to host our College Counselor Marisa, a former deputy director of admissions at MIT and admissions officer at Yale University. She also formerly served as the deputy dean of admissions for the Phillips Institute and the director of minority admissions. Marisa gave a very insightful lecture on topics focusing mostly on overseas study and the college application process.

Wondering how to apply to the top boarding schools and register for undergraduate courses in the US? Marisa utilized her insight as a former admission officer to explain several aspects of the process including school admissions officers, the overall enrollment of schools, and the matching of degrees between students and schools.
默瑞莎讲到：
平均一位招生官每年会审查1000多份申请材料，查看一份申请书不会超过15分钟，招生官决定录取的人最终会交由招生委员会讨论决定是否录取。另外，默瑞莎女士特别提到，会有专门的招生官负责其他国家或地区的申请文书。比如说，来自中国的学生会由一名招生官专门查阅所有来自中国的学生文书。
“An admissions officer will review more than 1000 applications each year on average. It takes the officer no more than 15 minutes to review each one. The applicant that the admissions officer decides to pursue eventually be submitted to the Admissions Committee to discuss whether he or she will be admitted.” In addition, Marisa specifically mentioned that “there are special admissions officers that are responsible for application documents from other countries or regions.” For example, there is an admissions officer who is responsible for checking all the applications from China.
各个学校的招生官会采用学校的一套评估体系，一般说来，如果学生的在学术上（SAT、GPA等标化成绩）不达标，那么这个学生就不太可能会出现在招生委员会的讨论名单上；如果学术达标，招生官会查阅学生的背景活动、文书等其他方面，从各个方面进行整体评估，之后，招生官会给这个学生写上简要的评论短文，然后递交招生委员会。
The admissions officer from each school will adopt some sort of system to ensure the effectiveness of their evaluations. Generally, if the student's academic performances (SAT, GPA, and other standardized results) do not reach the standard requirements, it is unlikely that the student will appear on the Admissions Committee's discussion list; On the other hand, if the academic standards are reached, the admissions officer will evaluate the students' background activities and documents to give the student an overall assessment. After that, the admissions officer will give the student a brief feedback and submit it to the Admissions Committee.
在和学校的匹配度方面，学校会评估学生是否适合学校，以及学生在毕业后能否为社会做贡献，另外，学校为保持种族的多样性会招收来自世界各地的学生。
In terms of matching with schools, most institutions will assess whether students are suitable for their school, and how much students can contribute to society after graduation. In addition, the school will recruit students from all over the world to maintain a strong diverse student-body.
默瑞莎女士也给了现场的学生和家长一些很好的建议。她建议学生要养成阅读的好习惯，尽早开始为申请的学校做准备，最大化的利用各种资源，使自己的申请更加个性化，只要对自己的申请有帮助的事情就应该毫不犹豫的去做。
Marisa also provided great advice to both students and parents. She suggested that students should have a good reading habit, start to prepare for the school applications as soon as possible, maximize resources, personalize application, and never hesitate to do things that would be beneficial to their applications in the future.

Marisa also shared several cases that she had worked with, to help parents and students visualize the difference between a good application and a bad one.
